In India, for many reasons, color red is chosen for wedding saree. There are different views on why the red color is chosen for saree, the bridal attire, amongst which some will be discussed in this blog.

Goddess Durga is of prime focus in Hindu mythology. Red color depicts her fiery image as she kills Mahishasura and establishes peace and harmony in the world. Hindu brides are asked to wear red color saree which reflects the image of Durga who is the inner strength of every Indian woman.

According to astrology, Mars is the in- charge of marriage and the color of Mars is red. Brides wear this color to signify the symbol of prosperity and fertility.

Another view is there, that is, red is the universal color of love and commitment. So this is no wonder that red will be the chosen color of girls when they dream of their wedding saree.

Red color signifies auspicious moments. So one of the most auspicious occasions for a woman is her wedding, remains incomplete without a red saree as her bridal dress. In fact, it is the most predominant color and a running theme in all Indian wedding.

The celebration for an Indian wedding usually continues for several days at a stretch. Mehendi ceremony, then the Tilak, followed by the sangeet is only the beginning of the marriage proceedings. Red sarees in different style and type make an appearance in almost all these event of celebrations.
